Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou is still searching for his first victory since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo, having now lost three of his opening five matches in charge.
Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday, the Australian boss took aim at his players’ defending but reserved particular ire for a refereeing call he described as an “absolute howler”.
The loss continues a disappointing start for Postecoglou, though there have been some signs of encouragement.
The team created numerous opportunities in the second half against Sunderland but were thwarted either by inspired goalkeeping from Robin Roefs or poor finishing.
For some Forest fans, the managerial switch was met with a mixed response, especially given the new coach’s previous tenure at Spurs, which saw him guide them to a Europa League triumph but finish just above the relegation zone in the Premier League last season.
Despite a run of four initial away games, which included a loss to Arsenal and a draw against a defensively solid Burnley, the Carabao Cup defeat to Swansea remains a major low point.
While five games without a win is a poor start, the team's ability to create chances suggests results may eventually follow.
