BBC viewers were swift to voice complaints during the women's semi-finals at Wimbledon this week. The final four women's singles competitors stepped onto Centre Court on Thursday July 9 to compete for a place in the final, with one match seeing Coco Gauff face Czech player Karolina Muchova while Marta Kostyuk battled Linda Noskova.

Following hours of gripping play, both Czech representatives Muchova and Noskova progressed to their first ever Wimbledon final. Noskova defeated Kostyuk in straight sets whereas Muchova's victory proved more challenging. The Czech player claimed the opening set against Gauff before losing the second, with a deciding set tiebreak ensuing. Gauff even held a match point at one stage before Muchova eventually prevailed.

Spectators were gripped by the nail-biting contest, yet numerous viewers raised objections about the broadcast. Multiple audience members felt that the commentary team of Naomi Cavaday, Tracy Austin and Anne Keothavong were favouring Gauff, prompting many to mute their televisions between each point.

One viewer posted on X: "I m getting sick to the back teeth with commentators totally impartial blatantly supporting Gauff in the #Wimbledon semi Why can't you provide a commentator free feed". Another stated: "I was watching this match on BBC So disappointed about the commentator bias".

The frustration continued with viewers describing the experience as "Exhausting watching Wimbledon muting the BBC commentary unmuting for the play then quickly muting again before they start their gibberish again". Another remarked: "The commentating for the woman's semi final was shocking Totally unprofessional and biased towards Coco Gauff".

One particularly vocal viewer observed: "The shrieks of excitement when Gauff wins a point The silence when Muchova wins a points That's the BBC commentators for you". Others complained about what they perceived as obvious bias, with an eighth viewer stating: "#BBC can your two commentators on the Muchova v Gauff match at Wimbledon be any more bias Coco this Coco that I just hope either commentator isn't available for the final because you will have one less viewer".
