Liverpool icon Jurgen Klopp could face dream job delay as Germany chiefs speaks out

Germany football chief Rudi Voller has doubled down on his support of Julian Nagelsmann following the national team's defeat against Ecuador, in a move that could significantly impact Jurgen Klopp's hopes of landing the coveted position.
Voller has made Germany's position on their head coach abundantly clear, particularly after Klopp's recent comments regarding the role. Speaking in a press conference, Voller stated: "I'm not sitting here because I have to protect Julian. This isn't just something I say because I have to in my official capacity - but Julian is an absolutely top-class coach."
The 66-year-old former player, who scored 47 goals in 90 caps, credited Nagelsmann's experience in handling the pressures of international management. "He knows that being the national coach means that many people will have different opinions on decisions. But he's experienced enough to handle that," Voller said.
While Germany's disappointing performance against Ecuador drew criticism, Voller emphasised the team had already secured their place in the knockout stages following victories over Ivory Coast and Curacao. He reflected on the setback philosophically: "Two or three weeks ago we all would have been perfectly happy to be top of the group after just two matchdays."
Earlier this month, Voller announced that Nagelsmann would remain in his position until after Euro 2028. "The DFB is completely satisfied with how Julian is doing," he declared. "What happens after Euro 2028 I can't yet say in his case. But definitely until 2028. Julian is a top coach. He is extremely empathetic. I know how he deals with the players. You couldn't wish for anything better."
The German football hierarchy's renewed backing of Nagelsmann appears directly linked to Klopp's recent comments about the position. Klopp, now serving as Red Bull's global head of football, had previously been touted as a potential successor. However, Germany's firm commitment to Nagelsmann until 2028 effectively delays any prospect of the Liverpool icon taking the role.
