Liverpool star Cody Gakpo and his partner have announced the devastating loss of their baby boy during pregnancy. The 27-year-old Netherlands forward, on World Cup duty, and his partner Noa van der Bij were expecting their second child due in October, following the birth of their son Samuel in 2024.
Noa announced the heartbreaking news through Instagram stories on Saturday. She shared an image of the couple holding hands over a blanket and knitted hat, captioned: "With broken hearts we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy Thank you for your love and support Elijah Raphael Gakpo Forever loved Forever our son."
In a follow-up story, Noa posted a photograph of a lit candle in a church, writing: "We went to church to light a candle Afterward we walked to the church playground with our son Samuel There was only one other child there His name was Elijah There could not have been a more beautiful sign from God He reminded us that our little boy is never far away."
Gakpo has requested privacy during this difficult time. He stated: "This is an incredibly difficult time for our family. We kindly ask for our privacy and space. Thank you for your understanding."
The exact timing of their loss remains unclear, as Noa had continued posting on social media throughout the summer following the end of Liverpool's season.
