Rudy Giuliani, 81, sustained a fractured thoracic vertebra and multiple cuts and bruises in a car crash in New Hampshire, according to spokesperson Michael Ragusa.
Giuliani was reportedly flagged down by a woman who said she had been injured in a domestic-violence incident; after he rendered assistance and contacted 911, Giuliani continued traveling by highway when his vehicle was struck from behind at high speed.
He was transported to a nearby trauma center, where doctors diagnosed the vertebral fracture as well as lacerations, contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
Ragusa emphasized there is no indication the crash was targeted and noted Giuliani was in a rental car.
Giuliani’s son, Andrew, asked the public for prayers, while Republican allies posted messages of support.
He is expected to remain hospitalized for several days for tests and will wear a brace during recovery, according to additional reports cited by Ragusa.
New Hampshire authorities have not yet released further details.
The episode adds a personal ordeal to an already intense year for the former mayor and ex-Trump attorney, who has faced a series of legal and financial setbacks, including a major civil defamation judgment earlier this year.
For now, representatives say Giuliani is in “good spirits” as he recuperates.
