The world of Formula One is abuzz with speculation regarding Adrian Newey's work at Aston Martin, with an exclusive report revealing the legendary aerodynamicist is keeping his preparations for the 2026 car strictly under wraps.
Test and reserve driver Felipe Drugovich lifted the lid on the secretive atmosphere, confirming that Newey is not sharing his detailed work with the wider team as he designs the machine for the new technical regulations.
The Brazilian racer, who only met the 66-year-old once during the 2025 season at the Silverstone track, suggested the secrecy is a sign of intense focus.
Newey, who was poached from Red Bull in September 2024, ended an 18-year partnership with the Milton Keynes squad that yielded eight Drivers’ Championship titles and six Constructors’ Championship crowns.
He officially started his work at Aston Martin in March, focusing immediately on the first challenger of the 2026 regulations.
Drugovich commented that the contact he had with the F1 design guru was minimal, stating, “I think that’s also a good thing though because he is really focused on what he’s doing.
He’s not really talking to anyone in the team.
No one knows what he’s doing.” The driver’s interpretation is that this level of singular focus on the 2026 project bodes well for the team’s future, with expectations of Aston Martin performing ‘pretty well next year.’ Meanwhile, Drugovich himself is embarking on a new adventure, committing to his first full-time motorsport role since winning the Formula Two crown, having signed for Andretti’s Formula E programme.
