Max Verstappen, the reigning F1 world champion, revealed he is open to a future move to Ferrari but only if the team can offer a car competitive enough to secure regular race victories and championships.
Speaking ahead of Ferrari’s home race at Monza, the 27-year-old Dutchman emphasized that driving for Ferrari’s iconic brand alone isn’t enough; he wants a winning opportunity.
Ferrari’s last Drivers’ Championship was in 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen, despite fielding stars like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
Verstappen, contracted with Red Bull until 2026, also named Mercedes as a potential option but stressed that any move must align with his ambition to win.
He noted Ferrari’s current drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, are set for 2025, making an immediate move unlikely.
Verstappen’s focus remains on Red Bull’s 2025 campaign, aiming to reclaim second in the Constructors’ Championship and hold off rivals in the Drivers’ standings.
With new F1 regulations in 2026, Verstappen will assess his options, prioritizing performance over emotional attachment to Ferrari’s legacy.
