The atmosphere at Celtic Park was notably subdued during the early stages of the club's goalless home draw against Hibernian, as fans staged a pre-planned silent protest against the board.
The demonstration was orchestrated by the Celtic Fans Collective, which had organised ‘12 minutes of silence from your 12th man’ to voice their continued displeasure with the club’s recent transfer dealings and management decisions.
The protest began from kick-off, creating a rare and noticeable silence in the standing section of the stadium.
A banner was unfurled, declaring ‘your silence is deafening,’ a direct reference to what the Collective perceives as unanswered questions from an open letter previously sent to the club’s hierarchy.
The action highlights the growing frustration among a significant portion of the fanbase regarding the perceived lack of ambition and investment in the squad during the transfer window.
The intention of the protest was to visually and audibly communicate the fans’ discontent to the board and management, making the scale of the dissatisfaction clear.
After the designated 12 minutes, the singing and chanting from the supporters did resume, but the match itself offered little on the pitch to cheer about, ending in a frustrating 0-0 draw.
The draw against Hibernian meant Celtic fans had ‘little to cheer’ beyond the organised protest, as the team failed to secure three points.
The action by the Celtic Fans Collective successfully drew attention to the ongoing internal issues at the club, signalling that while the fans will continue to support the team, their scrutiny of the board’s decisions will also persist.
