A section of the M20 motorway in Kent was closed to traffic after a crash involving a car and a lorry.
The incident occurred just before 04:00 BST, shutting the motorway between Junction 9 for Ashford and Junction 8 for Hollingbourne.
Kent Police confirmed that there were no injuries reported in the crash.
The closure was necessary to allow highways teams to safely recover the vehicles, clear debris from the road, and clean up an oil spill.
National Highways issued a statement thanking motorists who were held up in the resulting traffic for their patience.
The Inrix traffic monitoring service reported significant congestion on the A20 from Ashford towards Lenham and on Trinity Road and Faversham Road out of Ashford due to the M20 closure.
In addition to the clean-up and recovery operations, a bridge in the area was also being inspected for any potential damage.
Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area.
