Drivers are being warned to prepare for travel disruption as overnight closures are implemented on the A369 Portbury Hundred, a crucial artery connecting Portishead to Junction 19 of the M5 motorway and serving as a key route into Bristol.
The road will be closed nightly from 21:00 BST to 05:00 BST until October 18, excluding weekends.
North Somerset Council confirmed the closure will span the road's entire length, urging motorists to plan alternative journeys.
The project, deemed vital to maintain the road and improve safety, includes extensive resurfacing of the carriageway.
In addition to laying new tarmac, crews will repair or replace damaged ironworks, upgrade the highway's drainage system, refresh road markings and signage, and clear overgrown vegetation.
Hannah Young, Cabinet member for roads, stated the works are an "investment in the future of our road network," aimed at ensuring "safer journeys and a more resilient road infrastructure for North Somerset".
Diversions will be clearly marked, and traffic marshals will be on hand to assist local residents if required during the closure times.
