The BBC has released a first-look teaser for the fourth series of Blue Lights, the BAFTA and RTS award-winning police drama set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in autumn. The show, co-created, written and executive produced by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, follows officers at the fictional Blackthorn police station in Belfast.

Since its debut in 2023, Blue Lights has emerged as a massive success, with some viewers claiming it ranks among the finest police dramas available. In the newly released preview clip, Constable Shane Bradley, played by Frank Blake, stops an elderly driver David Trevor Gill and his passenger Imelda Rosamund Monteith in a bid to improve Blackthorn's crime statistics. During the encounter, he questions the man about whether he has been drinking, but the driver maintains that he hasn't touched a drop since 2003.

The forthcoming series stars Sian Brooke as Grace, Martin McCann as Stevie, Katherine Devlin as Annie and Nathan Braniff as Tommy. Game of Thrones actor Richard Dormer, who portrayed Gerry Cliff in series one, returns to the cast alongside Hannah McClean as solicitor Jen Robinson and Jonathan Harden as disgraced former Inspector Jonty. The episode featuring these returning characters promises to answer important questions from the past. The series also features Neil Keery from How To Get To Heaven From Belfast and Andrea Irvine from Call The Midwife.

Three series of Blue Lights have already aired, generating considerable praise from viewers online. One IMDb reviewer described it as "absolutely outstanding British drama," noting it is "poignant, emotional, engaging" with "brilliant" cast members. Another viewer remarked it is "easily the best police drama in the UK," adding that they would place it higher than Line of Duty. One fan commented that the recent series of Blue Lights was "even better than the last couple from Line of Duty," cementing its reputation as what many consider to be a true gem of contemporary British television.
