Thousands of music fans packed into Anfield Stadium as Foo Fighters brought their Liverpool performances to a close with a second night of high-energy rock music and emotional tributes to the city’s musical heritage.
The American band, led by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, made their debut at the home of Liverpool FC on Thursday June 25 before returning on Saturday June 27 for the final show of their two-night engagement. The concerts formed part of a major UK tour and attracted supporters from across the country.
Entertainment reporter Ryan Paton, who attended the opening night, described the performance as a cathartic live experience, highlighting the combination of powerful guitar riffs and crowd-pleasing singalongs that have helped establish Foo Fighters as one of rock music’s most dependable live acts. The set featured some of the band’s most recognisable songs, including All My Life, The Pretender and Best Of You, alongside favourites such as Everlong and Walk.
Before launching into Saturday’s performance, Grohl worked the crowd with a series of questions that drew a thunderous response. “Are you ready Are you f ing ready Do you want to dance Come on,” he asked as fans cheered throughout the stadium.
The frontman also paid tribute to Liverpool’s influence on popular music. “Everything I learned about rock and roll came from this city so come on,” he told the audience. Grohl went on to reflect on the band’s longstanding connection with British fans, emphasising the importance of performing in the UK throughout their career.
As the evening progressed, the band delivered a succession of hits that kept the crowd engaged until the closing moments. By the end of the night, Anfield had once again demonstrated its ability to host major live events, while Foo Fighters concluded their Liverpool visit on a celebratory note.
