ITV Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney supported by fans as she reveals exit storyline

Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney has been supported by fans as she teased her exit storyline. The actress, who has been a fan-favourite character on the cobbles since joining the soap in 2023, has been widely praised for her portrayal of Cassandra Plummer.
Cassie has been central to several major storylines over the years. After repairing her estranged relationship with her son Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan Halsall, she also became Ken Barlow's carer before pursuing a relationship with Tracy Barlow's ex-Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson and Kate Ford respectively. She even starred in the explosive Corriedale crossover episode earlier this year.
Sweeney announced her decision to leave the soap back in January. The actress's final scenes will start to play out on screen over the coming weeks. She recently shared a teaser clip on Instagram ahead of her exit storyline. In the video, Cassie can be seen proposing. It is also revealed that Tyrone's daughters Hope and Ruby will find Tyrone's biological dad.
The actress added the caption on social media: "A little taster for next week's Corrie as my leaving storyline begins."
Fans took to the comments to send their love and support. One said "You've been absolutely brilliant." A second said "Ahh you're going to be missed so much." A third added "Don't leave. Have loved Cassie's verbal sparring with well pretty much everyone. She will be missed."
Sweeney is leaving to pursue a West End role. She will be playing Miss Hannigan in Annie, the smash hit musical. In a post on Instagram earlier this year she said: "Liverpool I'm coming home. I'm delighted to be playing Miss Hannigan in Annie the smash hit musical. We're coming to the Empire theatre in September so you better buy your tickets."
After Claire's Coronation Street exit was announced, a spokesperson for ITV shared a statement: "We wish every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play. Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in leading up to a great exit storyline."
