'Masterpiece' period drama fans 'devour' and binge watch as fast as they can

Devoted fans of period dramas are lapping up a masterpiece series and simply cannot get through it quickly enough. The Americans, available on Disney+, ranks amongst the finest spy thrillers ever produced for television. The series centres on two KGB spies posing as an American family in suburban Washington D.C., spanning six seasons.

As job pressures intensify, the personal toll becomes almost unbearable, particularly for their American-born children, Paige and Henry. They face constant threat from FBI agent Stan Beeman, charged with rooting out Soviet operatives.

The series features Welsh actor Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell as the married spies. Viewers cite their performances as key to keeping audiences hooked. Rhys won an Emmy for his final season work. From 2013 to 2018, the series achieved 96 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, with season three earning a perfect 100 per cent.
