A major incident unfolded at a U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning after a shooting left three people injured and the assailant dead.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the incident, stating the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers were called to assist an officer on North Stemmons Freeway around 6.40 a.m., with a preliminary investigation determining that a person opened fire at a government building from an adjacent structure.
The facility is located along Interstate 35 East, just blocks from hotels and southwest of Dallas Love Field commercial airport.
The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department was also dispatched to the scene.
Todd Lyons noted that it was not yet confirmed whether the victims were employees, civilians visiting the facility, or detainees, as the agency was still working through the details.
Parkland Hospital received two patients from the shooting, though details about their conditions were not provided by hospital spokesperson April Foran.
A third person died at the scene, as confirmed by Dallas police spokesperson Officer Jonathen E.
Maner.
Traffic cameras showed six lanes of the normally busy freeway empty, with cars and semitrailers at a standstill on an interstate exit.
The investigation is ongoing, with a briefing expected later in the day as more details emerge.
