A vigil was held in Donabate Green in Co Dublin to remember Daniel Aruebose, a young boy who had been missing for several years.
Human remains, believed to be his, were found last week after an extensive search of an open area in the Donabate area.
Concerns for the boy were first raised by the child and family agency Tusla on August 29.
On Sunday, crowds gathered for the vigil, lighting candles and releasing blue and white balloons in his memory.
Poems were read and prayers were said for the boy.
Labour councillor Corina Johnston, who attended the event, said it was organized by senior citizens to help bring the community together during a time of shock and upset.
She described the event as 'very emotional but lovely' and highlighted the close-knit nature of the Donabate community.
The location where the remains were found is close to a sports complex and is an area frequently walked by locals.
Ms.
Johnston noted that people have already suggested placing a memorial there in the future to honor Daniel.
She said the discovery of the remains and the release of his photograph and name had brought home the 'terrible tragedy' of the situation to everyone.
The police believe the remains belong to Daniel, pending formal identification and analysis.
