Worst Neighbor Ever panicked 911 call reveals dad shot dead in reign of terror
A disturbing episode of Netflix's new true crime series "Worst Neighbor Ever" has shone a light on a tragic killing in Oakland, California, where a neighbourhood dispute descended into violence and murder. The documentary, which launched on 1 July, features the harrowing 911 call made by Matt Guido as he witnessed his neighbour being shot dead.
Miles Armstead, an expectant father, was killed in the street by neighbour Jamal "JT" Thomas following months of escalating harassment. Miles and his wife Melina had purchased a home in the diverse working-class Eastmont Hills neighbourhood with plans to start a family together. Miles had initially developed a friendship with JT, but when the Thomas family were evicted from their home, the situation spiralled out of control.
Following his eviction, JT repeatedly returned to harass the Armsteads, throwing rocks through their windows and intimidating the family despite numerous calls to police. The couple eventually moved to a new apartment, but the threats continued.
The documentary features the anguished 911 call made by Matt Guido, who witnessed the fatal shooting. "He's done shot somebody up He shot like 10 rounds I don't know if somebody's hurt man this is bad," Matt told the operator in distress. When asked if he could see anyone on the ground, he screamed: "Yes he shot my neighbour F Get back Get back. He shot my neighbour man He killed my f neighbour That m f killed by neighbour man it was JT."
Matt attempted to provide aid to Miles but quickly realised the worst had occurred. "He wasn't shaking he wasn't breathing he wasn't convulsing he wasn't gasping He was still and then I knew he was dead," he recalled.
Jamal Thomas was convicted of first-degree murder in July 2024 and sentenced to 28.8 years to life in prison in April 2025.
